Summer Programs | School of Visual Communication Design | Kent State University
Summer workshops are a longstanding tradition in VCD that challenge students to create unique design solutions to environmental graphic design problems in a short-term, immersive setting.
The Kent State University School of Visual Communication Design workshops were developed specifically for working professionals and students at the graduate and advanced undergraduate level. VCD sponsors the Environmental Graphic Design (EGD) workshops, which are co-sponsored by the Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD). They provide studio experiences, lectures and seminars for professionals and students from well-known resident instructors and visiting designers of national and international reputation.
Go Chicago! Summer Program in Environmental Graphic Design
May 2013 in Chicago, Illinois
Students designed a pedestrian wayfinding system for Northwestern University Evanston campus. In two weeks, the students worked in groups to gather historical and background information, conduct research through interview and observations, and design prototypes for proposed solutions. Each day, Chicago-based design professionals offered seminars, critiques and guidance for their projects. Students networked with VCD alumni in the area and explored downtown Chicago while gaining immersive training in environmental graphic design.
