|National Depression Screening Day
This national event is held on campus each October during Mental Illness Awareness Week and is designed to raise awareness of mental health issues, and to screen individuals for Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Educational material is available during the event, as is referral information for individuals in need of mental health services.
National Alcohol Screening Day National Alcohol Screening Day (NASD)is a free public health event that provides anonymous screening for alcohol-use disorders and offers educational materials about alcohol and health-related issues. NASD is an outreach promotional effort to reduce and prevent at-risk drinking. The event is open to campus and community members.
The screening form, Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), asks participants about their drinking habits and if their behaviors have changed due to their drinking. Once the screening form is scored, participants have the opportunity to discuss the results with a mental health professional or University Health Services clinician. If appropriate, the participants receive referral information regarding support and/or treatment services both on campus and in the community. The screening process takes approximately 10-20 minutes for each participant.
