Steam and Plumbing
Services provided by our Steam, Plumbing and Welding team
University Facilities Management's pipefitters combine steamfitter and plumbing operations and maintain the systems to provide steam, water and drainage to all the buildings on campus.
The plumbing operation is responsible for the water main supply to and throughout each of the buildings, as well as the sewer main systems from each building. This operation repairs and maintains various pumps, fixtures, equipment, indoor gas piping systems and miles of underground water supply, storm and sewer lines.
The operation also handles maintenance of the campus steam distribution system outside of the Power Plant. The steam is used year-round for heating, cooling and processing equipment in laboratories and food service operations throughout the Kent State University campus.
The steamfitters are responsible for miles of steam distribution piping and controls throughout the campus. Steamfitters repair pipes, steam traps, pressure regulators, heat exchangers, domestic hot water systems and steam safety devices. The steam system provides both heating, and in certain areas cooling through specialized chillers.
Welding and fabrication services are provided for University Facilities Management's maintenance team as well as any other University department requesting service
