KENT, OH– The regional premier of “Make Believe” at the Dobama Theatre opens on Friday, Oct. 6, and features two KSU School of Theatre and Dance faculty– Courtney Brown and Paul Hurley.
In the heart of Cleveland lies the Dobama Theatre, a professional venue for established and emerging playwrights to captivate audiences across Northeast Ohio. This Friday, “Make Believe” opens at the Dobama Theatre and features performances from two Kent State University School of Theatre and Dance faculty– Courtney Brown and Paul Hurley.
“Make Believe,” by Tony nominee Bess Wohl, centers around this fact: “The ghosts of childhood never disappear.” The play features four young siblings in tandem to their own adult lives and examines how the past can often haunt the present. Courtney Brown, associate professor of theatre, stars as adult Kate, and Paul Hurley, associate professor of acting and movement, stars as adult Carl.
Outside of their work at Kent State University, Brown and Hurley hold impressive careers in the theatre arts that continue to inform their teaching. Hurley states:
"Putting into practice the techniques I utilize in the classroom deepens my ability to articulate the craft of acting and storytelling to my students. In short, I continue to find that teaching makes me a better actor and acting makes me a better teacher."
