Quality of Life of People with Mental Illness

The Quality of Life of People with Mental Illness research team, led by Christian Ritter, Ph.D., Principal Investigator, and Mark Munetz, M.D., Co-Principal Investigator, has been conducting research on jail diversion programs since 2002. Kristen Marcussen, Ph.D., is the Investigator for the team. Funding has been provided by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and the Office of Criminal Justice Services. The research team collaborates with state leaders in the areas of research, mental health, and criminal justice. Members of the team serve on the Criminal Justice Coordinating Center of Excellence, the Supreme Court of Ohio Advisory Committee on Mental Illness and the Courts, the state CIT Coordinators, and local CIT Advisory Committees. These collaborations insure that we are able to disseminate the results to a broad, diverse audience in an efficient and effective manner so that local communities will be able to improve their capacity, strategically address their needs, and provide appropriate response and care to those with mental illness in crisis. The research team formed of the Research Consultation Network, an association of researchers throughout the state who assist communities with research and data analysis issues related to jail diversion of people with mental illness. The goal of the Research Consultation Network is to build a collaborative research agenda among leading researchers in the criminal justice and mental health fields in Ohio. It is in place to assist in the development of tracking procedures and outcomes for research initiatives and evaluation related to jail diversion programs. Research consultants will also disseminate evidence-based findings throughout the state and country.
