Dr. Jessica Leveto
Dr. Leveto has taught at both public and private institutions in 'traditional' "brick and mortar" classrooms and online. At Kent State Ashtabula Dr. Leveto teaches Introduction to Sociology, Researching Society, Social Problems, Sociology of Work and Sociology of Families. She is engaged in alternative pedagogical techniques and always looking for innovative approaches to education.
Dr. Leveto's research interests include sociology of emotions, neurosociology and the scholarship of teaching. Her publication (along with colleague Dr. Will Kalkhoff) "Biosocial Interaction Rituals of Autism Spectrum Disorders: A Research Agenda for Neuorsociology" demonstrates how neurosociologists can further the understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders through integrating sociology's knowledge of paraverbal communication and interactional synchrony with neurology's knowledge of the brain. Additionally, Dr. Leveto examines the relationship between emotions and identity. Currently, Dr. Leveto is working with Dr. Richard Serpe examining the relationship between Structural Identity Theory, Self Concept and Emotions. Dr. Leveto is also currently working on projects related to the use of social media in the classroom.
Dr. Leveto is the faculty advisor for the Kent State University at Ashtabula Sociology Club and actively engaged with the American Sociological Association as the newsletter editor, Webmaster and social media coordinator for the Emotions Section.
