Update for Inventors: Streamlined invention processing system

As you may know, one of the important provisions of the patent law which passed in 2012 is that the U.S. went to a first-to-file, rather than the traditional first-to-invent, patent system.  Therefore, KSU responded with a streamlined invention processing system (within the context of current university policy) to enable patent filings to take place more expediently, as follows:

Inventions submitted to the Office of Corporate Engagement and Commercialization are reviewed immediately, and provisional patent applications on selected inventions are made quickly.  Patent Board meetings are held biannually in September and March, during which 1) inventions not previously filed are presented by inventors and reviewed, and 2) inventions previously filed as provisional applications which are coming up for a utility patent application decision are reviewed.  Patent application filings are made subsequently, as appropriate.
