SIAM recognized Varga for his contributions to matrix analysis, numerical analysis, complex variables, and approximation theory. Varga also edits several journals in the field of computational mathematics, numerical analysis and algorithms, and is a SIAM book author. Fellows are nominated based their exemplary research in the field as well as outstanding contributions to the community. Less than 0.5% of regular SIAM members are appointed as Fellows each year.
