Spring 2015 Events:


January 24  Students packed meals for diabetic homebound clients of Mobile Meals Inc., of Akron.
 
February 4-5 
The PHSA assisted the Office of Health Promotion with a successful Scholarships & Burritos LifeShare blood drive.
 
February 20  Students volunteered at Access Inc., an Akron agency dedicated to assisting homeless women and children, sorting donations, performing light cleaning, working in the kitchen and helping with child care.
 
April 6-10  National Public Health Week.  Multiple activities will take place:

· April 7  The PHSA’s fifth-annual Public Health Fair will bring together students and the community.  Local and national health organizations are invited to exhibit to educate about their missions and to promote internships and careers.

· April 7  The PHSA will again co-sponsor a LifeShare blood drive with the Office of Health Promotion.

· April 8  The PHSA will hold its second Public Health Research Forum, with graduate students submitting abstracts for faculty review, then presenting their work in a poster presentation format.  A winner will be named at the conclusion.

April 9  National Alcohol Screening Day.  Students will staff this annual outreach, education and screening program that raises awareness about alcohol misuse and refers individuals with alcohol problems for further treatment. 

April 17-18  Students will participate in the Kent State Relay for Life, to be held at the University Field House from 6:00 p.m. Friday to 12:00 noon on Saturday.
 
April 24  The fourth-annual Art for Cancer silent auction will be held to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.  The event will include an elegant dinner, a speaker addressing awareness of cancer and a silent auction featuring fine art and crafts donated by faculty, staff and students, demonstrating their hidden talents.  Last year, the auction raised $3,850 for Relay for Life, thanks to the support and generosity of the college community.
