Dissertation/Thesis Topic:
Current arguments in the higher education literature note a growing concern regarding the future of public higher education. Most notably, scholars point to amassing student debt coupled with growing numbers of less erudite graduates as potential signs of a higher education "bubble." To guard against unwarranted outcomes, state legislatures routinely adopt performance-based funding policies which offer incentives to public universities for meeting or surpassing certain performance benchmarks. Though in its early stages, my research uses the aforementioned concerns as a platform for investigating both state and institutional-level measures of accountability while examining the underlying causal mechanisms of these policy adoptions. Furthermore, I apply my research at the micro-level by analyzing the effects on student success.
