Eligible ApplicantsThis includes graduates of nursing master's programs, students currently in master's nursing programs, and faculty wanting to refine their teaching skills.

PurposeThe program will educate master's prepared nurses who seek employment in nursing education (academic, staff development, and patient education).

Program Description:The three courses are web based and focus on nursing curriculum development and program evaluation in a variety of settings conducted over three semesters. The practicum is based on student learning needs and is planned in a convenient location. Course work is managed by students off campus, with assistance by faculty through web based options The 3 courses are:

(September - December)
3 credit hours

Nursing Curriculum and Instruction in Higher Education (N60601).Focuses on curriculum content and facilitates critical thinking in curriculum planning, design, development, and implementation and evaluation in nursing education (prerequisites: MSN graduate, or completion of N60101; 60001 or 60021 or 60041; or permission).

(January - May)
3 credit hours

Roles and Evaluation for Nursing Curriculums in Higher Education (N60602).Focuses on test and measurement and techniques of evaluation for nursing education. Addresses faculty and student roles and legal and ethical issues (prerequisites: N60601).

(September - December)
3 credit hours

Practicum in Nursing Higher Education (N60692). Focuses on curriculum design, implementation, and teaching experience with a nursing preceptor in higher education or staff development and is planned specifically for students in a convenient location (prerequisites: N60601 and N60602).

Application Information:All applications for admission to post-master's study are obtained online Kent State University MSN graduates will need to complete a "Re-application for Admission" form. Master's graduates from other schools of nursing must complete an application for graduate study, including official transcripts. Currently enrolled masters' students should call the College of Nursing for application information.
