Advanced Practice Registered Nurse: Nurse Practitioner - Family
Program OverviewThe Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is awarded to successful graduates of the Family Nurse Practitioner (APNF) program in the concentration of Family Health. While pursuing this Nursing Master’s Degree, students can learn important skills in the areas of health promotion, risk detection, illness prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses. Family Nurse Practitioners are taught to practice independently and in collaboration with other health professionals to provide continuity of health care and to maximize the effectiveness of community and health care system services. This Nursing Master’s Degree program can help students learn primary care skills and clinical judgment skills through mentorship of faculty and clinical preceptors in a variety of ambulatory care settings and specialty clinics. Family Nurse Practitioners are employed in primary care offices including family practice, internal medicine, managed care offices, ERs, clinics, long-term care facilities, academic settings, and occupational health settings. Family Nurse Practitioners are skilled clinicians who serve as healthcare researchers, interdisciplinary consultants and patient advocates.
The ideal applicants to this Nursing Master's Degree Program will have 3-5 years clinical experience as a Registered Nurse preferably with exposure to a variety of ages and patient populations. Applicants to the Nursing Master’s Degree program must arrange for an interview prior to being approved for the FNP program. Interviews will take place early spring for fall semester and late summer to early fall for spring semester.
