Associate Dean for Graduate Programs

The Opportunity

The College of Nursing at Kent State University (KSU) invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Graduate Programs. 

The Associate Dean will assist the Dean in the overall leadership and administration of the College of Nursing, and provide leadership and strategic direction for graduate programs.

Essential Functions

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:  

  • Oversees graduate teaching assignments
  • Serves on internal and external committees and represents College at appropriate internal and external bodies, committees, councils, etc.
  • Assists in recruitment and hiring of graduate faculty
  • Coordinates faculty development
  • Provides leadership for graduate curriculum planning, development analysis and revision.
  • Prepares materials for submission to internal and external bodies (OBoR, EPC, CCNE, etc.)
  • Responsible for quality assurance of graduate programs
  • May represent College in the absence of the Dean
  • May teach courses
  • Perform related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

Doctoral degree in nursing or related field.  Master's degree in nursing required. Four to five years’ experience in curriculum development. Academic record sufficient in quality for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

Knowledge Of:

  • Academic Programs
  • Budgeting and strategic planning *

Skill In:

  • Written, verbal and interpersonal communication with the ability to communicate effectively with all components of the university and external constituents *
  • Utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and other applicable software *
  • Organizing information and projects and adhering to deadlines *
  • Demonstrated organizational, assessment, problem solving, and decision-making skills *
  • Staff supervision and workforce management *

Ability to:

  • Work with diverse student populations *
  • Ability to provide leadership and to direct others; including the supervision of staff and
  • students *
  • Independently manage multiple projects and functions and prioritize workflow *
  • Ability to maintain a collegial and constructive environment based on open communication and positive team building *
  • Successfully collaborate with faculty, staff and students associated with the College *

Current license as registered nurse in Ohio or ability to obtain licensure in State of Ohio

Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.  Typically requires sitting, walking, standing, bending, keying, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others.  Incumbent will be required to travel from building to building and off campus frequently.
