President Warren Visits Ashtabula

Posted Jul. 3, 2014

After a morning in Kent, President Beverly Warren boarded a bus with campus deans and vice presidents to travel to Kent State University at Ashtabula for her first day on the job as the University's 12th president.  The group was welcomed to the Ashtabula campus by a round of applause from faculty, staff and students.  After welcoming the group, Dr. Susan Stocker, Dean and Chief Administrative Officer for the Ashtabula campus, took the group on a campus tour.  Dean Stocker pointed out new additions to the campus and renovations that are in progress this summer, along with upcoming renovations that are slated in the campus' master plan.

After the campus tour, President Warren and guests received detailed information about the Ashtabula community, the campus' student population, faculty achievements, and how the community and the campus work together to further higher education in the area.  The session ended with an opportunity for the audience to ask questions of both Dean Stocker and President Warren.

Tuesday night, President Warren attended a community reception that gave members of the local business community, Ashtabula Area College Committee, and area educators the opportunity to respond to questions from President Warren about what makes Kent State unique and opportunities for the university system.

President Warren ended her trip to Ashtabula with a luncheon at Ferrante's Winery and a meeting with area hospitality and wine industry leaders.  A presentation from Mark Winchell, Ashtabula County Convention & Visitors Bureau, addressed the importance of the Ashtabula campus offering hospitality management and wine degrees to support the local economy.
