CUDC Street Installation Gains National Attention

Posted Apr. 27, 2012

Last Friday the CUDC wrapped up its final day of the latest Pop Up City event, a temporary installation at Rockwell Avenue in downtown Cleveland. Pop Up Rockwell was the culmination of a five-week studio for graduate urban design students.

After the city put forth a vision how streets of Cleveland's future would function, faculty, designers, and students at the CUDC took on the challenge of re-making this street so that the public and policy makers could experience these changes in a tangible and interactive way. Pop Up Rockwell could inform future financial and planning decisions without making any permanent changes or commitments.

The installation brought design plans to life, and life to this quiet corner near Public Square. Performance artist Jimmy Kuehnle added to the 3D experience. Some great local food trucks stopped by to satisfy visitors' sweet and savory cravings. Check out the CUDC's Twitter feed and flickr for some great photos.

Pop Up Rockwell garnered national attention from AP, and was featured in local publications and TV outlets.
