Kent State Stark Welcomes New Advancement DirectorPosted Aug. 6, 2014
Kent State University at Stark is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Karen Fettig as the campus’s director of advancement.
As a member of the Institutional Advancement team, Fettig connects with campus friends and alumni, companies and organizations, to raise awareness of Kent State’s positive impact in the Stark County community. She cultivates and secures major gifts and endowments to benefit Kent State Stark, as well as maintaining the campus’s relationships with current and past donors. “Philanthropy supports the university’s mission of lifelong learning,” says Fettig. “The generosity of individuals and organizations positively impacts the number of scholarships for Stark Campus students, advances the academic programming, provides quality educational experiences and more.”
With the anticipated fall 2015 opening of Kent State Stark’s new 41,140 sq. ft. Sciences Building, Fettig’s position as an advancement officer is essential to the campus. Opportunities abound for potential donors, including naming classrooms, labs and other learning and administrative spaces of the $17 million academic building. “It is so exciting to be part of the momentum around the Sciences Building and the other projects in the campus’s master plan,” says Fettig.
Prior to Kent State Stark, she was the development officer for The University of Akron’s College of Engineering. Prior to that position, Fettig, who holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s degree in higher education administration, both from The University of Akron, handled public relations and development for college preparatory schools in Akron and Florida. Fettig looks forward to becoming more involved in the local community through service on local boards and committees of non-profit organizations.
