MAC Media Day 2014

TeleProductions students at MAC Media Day.

The Mid-American Conference will soon begin their exciting season, and TeleProductions has the opportunity to help. For the fourth year, TeleProductions at Kent State University will help with the Production of MAC Media Day on July 23rd at Ford Field in Detroit, MI.

This is a day for coaches, players, and the media to talk to each other and get a good idea of what to expect for the season. A few of the players have the chance to talk to the media, and all the coaches have an opportunity to answer questions as well.

While this day is an exciting time for coaches, this is also an exciting time for fans. Media members are getting an idea of who is going to be the big players this year and what they should report, but fans are also enjoying the day!

TeleProductions gives MAC fans that opportunity. With coaches and players on the forefront, media crews stay behind the cameras to produce the content. ESPN sends media members there, coaches take players and their Sports Information directors, but the technical side of the production comes from Kent State’s own TeleProductions.

Jeff Bentley works with the Production Truck at TeleProductions and will take 5-6 students to help with the event. Students help set up lighting, the truck, run camera, and then tear down and take it home. Students get a real-life experience in the field that they want to go into, and by the end of the day, have participated in an ESPN3 broadcast.

Not only do these events look nice on a resume, but also the experiences these students gain support the words they write on paper. Senior Mike Donelan says the experience he gained here has a real world feel. “Any event that students work at TeleProductions gives us real-world experience, not necessarily just in sports. MAC Media Day is an example of an event that isn't strictly sports. While the content is football, its more of a multi camera studio shoot.”

Students have the opportunity to gain experience and become a member of the TeleProductions team. Training happens every Friday during the school year from 2-5 p.m. in the TeleProductions studio in the Center for Performing Arts. All majors are welcome, and one semester of training must be completed before students get paid. TeleProductions offers jobs that allow students to get hands-on training in their field.
