Student ACS Group Awarded Inter-Chapter Relations GrantPosted Nov. 4, 2013
Congratulations to the Kent State chapter of the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society (SAACS), who have been awarded the Inter-Chapter Relations Grant for the 2013-14 academic year by the American Chemical Society!
According to the ACS, the Inter-Chapter Relations Grant is intended to bring student chapters together in the hopes of networking opportunities and the establishment of bonds between nearby chapters. The grant will assist the group in their upcoming poster session this Spring, which will be held in tandem with the Stark State College chapter of the SAACS.
Recently, the SAACS group celebrated National Chemistry Week with two events. The first was a Mole Day Party on campus, which was attended by a number of Kent State students. The group presented some chemistry demos geared toward this year's National Chemistry Week theme: Energy Now and Forever. There was also a trivia competition and a movie night.
The second event the group participated in was held in the Lake Metroparks Environmental Learning Center in Concord, Ohio. The event has been held annually during National Chemistry Week and is intended to grow enthusiasm for chemistry within the local communities and schools. Dr. Ann Abraham from the Ashtabula Campus organized this year's event, which was sponsored by Lubrizol and the ACS Northeast Ohio section. Members of the SAACS demonstrated chemistry experiments to children visiting the facility.
