Honors College Students Seek Submissions for Publication in Honors Art and Literary Magazine

Posted Sep, 16, 2013

Brainchild, a regional Honors art and literary magazine, opened for submissions Sept. 15 for the spring 2014 issue.

The publication is being edited and produced by five Honors students at Kent State University. Student staff members solicit and evaluate work for publication while gaining practical experience in editing and publishing as well as magazine design and operations management functions.

The magazine is in its second year of publication. Last year, the magazine only included work by Honors College students at Kent State University. This year the magazine will contain work from students at undergraduate institutions who are members of the Mid-East Honors Association.

“Brainchild is intended to showcase creative work from Honors students from across the Mid-East Honors region. We hope to develop this into an on-going annual publication that provides an educational experience for our students at Kent State University and a high-quality publication for distribution,” said Aaron Hanlin, advisor to the magazine.

Undergraduate Honors students enrolled in an accredited Honors College or program in the Mid-East Honors Association region can submit art and literature in the categories of fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, fine art, and photography.

The magazine is currently accepting online submissions through the Brainchild website. Submissions must be original work by the student. Eligible students may present simultaneous submissions that have not been published elsewhere. The deadline for submissions is December 1.

MEHA has member institutions in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and West Virginia. For more information, visit
