Teacher Education Organizations To Hold ConferencePosted Apr, 8, 2010
The Ohio Confederation of Teacher Education Organizations (OCTEO) will hold its biannual conference April 14-16 at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Dublin, Ohio. “With its theme of ‘Innovations in Teacher Education: P-12 Partnerships,’ the conference brings together teacher educators, field supervisors, licensure officials, state-level officials and others who impact educator preparation in Ohio,” said Dr. Joanne Arhar, president of OCTEO and associate dean for Kent State University’s College and Graduate School of Education, Health and Human Services.
Highlights of the three-day event include an April 15 luncheon keynote address by Dr. J. Michael Thomas, Senior Director, Innovation, Battelle for Kids in Columbus. He will speak on “The Genie is Out of the Bottle: Implications of Classroom Level Value-Added Analysis.” Earlier in the day, a panel discussion on “Innovative Partnerships: The Vision of P-16 Councils,” will include Dr. Cathy Dietlin, Executive Director, REACHigher, Lorain County P-16 Council; Dr. Gloria Dunnivan, Associate Director, Pre College and Outreach Programs, Kent State University; and Dewey Chapman, Superintendent, Portage County Educational Service Center. Additional concurrent sessions will be held throughout the day.
On Friday, April 16, updates will be provided by John Soloninka, Center for the Teaching Profession, Ohio Department of Education; and Dr. Thomas G. Bordenkircher, Associate Vice Chancellor, Ohio Board of Regents. Ines Bosworth and Dena Hoffman, the Educational Testing Service, will provide an update of the Praxis II exams.
Additionally, the Ohio Association of Teacher Educators will present awards for the Outstanding Field Experience Program, Outstanding Student Teacher, Outstanding Mentor, and the Outstanding College/University Supervisor. The Martha Alcock Outstanding Research/Scholarship Award also will be given during a Thursday evening awards dinner.
OCTEO is an umbrella organization that brings together the efforts of the Ohio Association of Teacher Educators, Ohio Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, Ohio Association of Private Colleges for Teacher Education, Ohio Field Directors Forum, and State University Education Deans.
