Kent State Holds Universitywide Dodgeball Tournament to Raise Funds for Haiti Relief Effort

Kent State University students, faculty, alumni and community members are competing in the Kent State University Dodgeball for Haiti tournament on Thursday, March 4, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center on the Kent Campus. All of the proceeds from the tournament will go to relief efforts in Haiti.

Kent State student Mike Matousek, a senior finance major, came up with the innovative way to raise money to help the people of Haiti. The registration fee for the event is $5 per team member. Matousek’s goal is to raise $10,000.

The universitywide dodgeball tournament offers students, faculty and staff from every major the chance to compete for the title “Major with the Most Danger.” Alumni and local businesses also have formed teams.

All tournament proceeds will go to the “10 in 10 in 10 – Kent State United for Disaster Relief – Haiti” campaign. The campaign is working to raise $10,000 in 10 weeks in the year 2010. All campaign money will be donated to UNICEF. The organization is waiving all administration fees on money donated to Haiti.
