Message from the President Regarding HaitiPosted Jan, 14, 2010
Dear Members of the Kent State Community,
Most of you have seen news media reports about the powerful, 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck the island nation of Haiti on Tuesday afternoon. The devastation resulting from this natural disaster is unprecedented and, as you've seen, has resulted in a heart-wrenching humanitarian crisis. Knowing that the character of our community has always included compassion for others, I write to encourage you to join me in supporting one of the many relief organizations that have mobilized to assist the earthquake victims.
The full scale of this disaster remains unknown. But we do know that the people of Haiti are in desperate need of life-saving assistance. Here are some ways you can help:
- You can make an unrestricted donation to the International Response Fund of the American Red Cross by visiting www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767).
- You can text "Haiti" to 90999 to send a $10 donation to the Red Cross through an effort backed by the U.S. State Department.
- You can send a check to American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington D.C. 20013. Funds sent to this address will support relief efforts in Haiti.
I thank the many members of our community who have made donations already. And thanks in advance to those of you who will show your care and concern in the coming days, weeks and months as the long and arduous process of rescue and recovery unfolds.
