Pop Up City and Ingenuity Presents The Bridge Project on Sept. 25 - 26 (09/08/2009)

On Sept. 25 and 26, one of the most fascinating under-used urban spaces in the city of Cleveland will transform into a center of art and performance as Pop Up City and Ingenuity, the Cleveland festival of art and technology, presents The Bridge Project.

The Bridge Project takes place Friday, Sept. 25, from 4 p.m. to midnight and Saturday, Sept. 26, from noon to midnight on the entire one-mile span of the streetcar level of the Veterans Memorial Bridge (Detroit Superior Bridge) in Cleveland. The event is free to the public and includes art, music, food and beverage vendors, and performers positioned across the great span of the bridge. At the west end, a series of archways and rooms will be animated by art installations, exhibits and performances, many involving technology. Kent State University architecture students will create interactive environments along the span of the bridge, revealing the potential of the bridge to become a signature public space for Cleveland.

To gain access to the art, food and festivities on the lower level of the bridge, guests can enter via the eastern entrance at West 10th Street and West Superior Avenue above the RTA’s Waterfront Line stop in the Flats.  From the west, there are two entrances from the Cuyahoga County Engineer parking lots on the Superior Viaduct and one entrance at Massimo da Milano restaurant at West 25th Street and Detroit Avenue.

Pop Up City produces temporary events and installations that occupy vacant buildings and activate vacant land in ways that shine a spotlight on some of Cleveland’s spectacular but underutilized properties.  Pop Up City is funded through a Civic Innovation Lab project of Terry Schwarz of the Kent State Urban Design Collaborative.
