Graduate Students Award 2008-2009 Outstanding MBA Professor Award (04/28/2009)

The Graduate Management Association recently awarded Dr. Pratim Datta with the 2008-09 Outstanding MBA Professor Award.

The Graduate Management Association is a student organization of Kent State University’s Graduate School of Management. Students nominate a professor who makes the subject matter interesting and understandable, brings real-world experience and examples to the course and is always willing to answer students’ questions.

“Receiving the award is one of the highlights of my career. I’m committed to teaching and my students, so being considered ‘outstanding’ by them is a great compliment,” says Datta,  assistant professor of information systems in the Management and Information Systems Department of the College of Business Administration. Datta serves as the co-chair of the Center for Information Systems Marketing Committee and is co-adviser to the Management and Information Systems Association.

O. Felix Offodile, Management and Information Systems Department chairperson, says the award reinforces what the department already knows about Datta.

“This award means a lot to the department and I am sure, Dr. Datta,” Offodile says.  “He is a very good teacher, researcher and productive colleague, and his students think so highly of him to let everyone else know through this award. This is another recognition he can add to his growing list of accomplishments.”

Yank Heisler, dean of Kent State’s College of Business Administration, says Datta is an invaluable professor.

“Dr. Datta has spent several years in many industry positions and brings his expertise into the classroom,” Heisler says.  “He is an asset to the department and a wonderful mentor to his students and contemporaries alike.”

Prior to joining academia, Datta held positions spanning information retrieval and liaising, inventory modeling, information retrieval, IS consulting, IT deployment and shop-floor operations. He has more than 30 peer-reviewed, refereed journal and conference publications and two best paper awards in premier conferences.

“Being recognized for my contributions is motivation to continue learning and educating my students,” Datta says.
