Former SEC Chair Pitt Highlights Institute of Management Accountants Conference at Kent State, April 24

The Ohio Council of the Institute of Management Accountants will host its 35th annual professional development conference on Friday, April 24, at Kent State University.  Harvey L. Pitt, former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission and chief executive officer and founder of Kalorama Partners, will provide the keynote address “The Fate of Global Financial Reporting”  during the noon lunch session in the Kent Student Center Ballroom.

The conference starts at 8 a.m. in the Kent Student Center Kiva with the popular financial reporting panel that includes Robert H. Herz, chairman of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), Charles D. Niemeier, member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, and Carlo D. Pippolo, national director of standard setting at Ernst & Young LLP.  The panel will be moderated by Dennis R. Beresford, executive professor of accounting at the University of Georgia, and former chairman of the FASB from 1987-1997.

The afternoon sessions, in the Kent Student Center Kiva, will include a presentation by Michael D. Capellas, chairman and chief executive officer of First Data and former chief executive officer of Compac Computer Corporation and of MCI.  Capellas’ topic will be “Navigating the Economic Landscape – Turning Today’s Challenges into Tomorrow’s Opportunities”.

Robert “Yank” Heisler, dean of Kent State’s College of Business Administration and retired chairman of KeyBank N.A., will moderate an afternoon roundtable discussion on financial and business strategies to include Richard H. Marsh, senior vice president and chief financial officer at FirstEnergy Corp., and Mark R. Belgya, vice president and chief financial officer at The J.M. Smucker Company.
