11/19/2014 ATA Post-mortem Meeting

KentLingua is holding the ATA post-mortem meeting tomorrow, Wednesday November 19, at 2 pm in Satterfield 116. We are asking some conference attendees to share a little about their experience at ATA and tips for future attendees; this event is sure to be helpful for any students thinking about attending the conference next year.


11/14/2014: ALT Visits the IAL

Scott Bass, founder and president of Advanced Language Translation (ALT), is going to come and speak with IAL students this Friday, November 14, in 112A SFH from 3 to 5 pm.

ALT is an ISO 9000-certified Language Service Provider (LSP) in Rochester, NY, specializing in technical translation and localization for major corporations. This is a unique chance to meet, talk, and network with a CEO who has been in the trenches of professional translation for over 20 years. He is a good source of information/feedback for questions about trends in the industry, what LSPs seek in prospective subcontractors (freelancers) or employees, etc.


10/23/2014: Freelancing and Résumé Workshop

We are going to have a workshop this Thursday, October 23 at 2 pm in Satterfield Hall 316. Two Kent alumnae will talk about getting started as freelance translators, and they will be happy to answer any questions about freelancing you have. We will also discuss tips for building a great résumé so you can be ATA-ready for November!


9/20/2014: NOTA Annual Dinner & MemoQ Workshop

The Northeast Ohio Translators Association (NOTA), a professional development organization for translators and interpreters, is holding an introductory workshop on MemoQ (a popular computer-assisted translation tool) in Kent on Saturday, September 20. The workshop will be followed by NOTA's annual dinner, a good opportunity to network and meet some people who work in the industry.

9/18/2014: ATA Conference Preperation Seminar

This Thursday, our own Jamie Hartz will be running a session aimed at anyone who is attending—or thinking of attending—this year's ATA (American Translators Association) conference. Jamie, who attended last year's conference, will share helpful tips and info for first-time attendees.

This event will be held this Thursday, September 18, at 2:45 pm in Satterfield Hall 108.
