Kent State University Libraries offers multiple methods for users to receive help with their informational needs. Below you will find the current methods of obtaining help from librarians.
The University Library's Reference Desk is open 69 hours per week during the academic year. We currently have 10 subject librarians, professional staff, and trained graduate students from the School of Library and Information Science available to answer your questions. Please visit our Libraries' hours page for additional information on the University Library and our Branch Libraries on campus.
By Phone (330) 672-3150Users may call the University Library's Reference Desk during
desk hours to ask questions. Callers are limited to asking short informational questions with a limit of 3 questions per phone call.
In-person users have priority so please call back in a few minutes if we are not able to immediately answer your call.
E-mail Service (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Users may also contact the library using our e-mail reference service. E-mails are normally directed to the appropriate subject librarian to answer. Typically answers to questions are received by users within 24 hours. During weekends and holidays, users should expect an answer to their question within 48 hours.
LibChat Instant Messaging Service
LibChat instant messaging service is accessible by clicking on the ASK US button located on the left side of most Web pages. Questions that are short and factual are best answered through our chat service. Service is offered during normal Reference Desk hours. You may also chat with librarians from our branch locations if they are online. Use the Department menu in the chat widget to see if a librarian from our Architecture, Fashion, Map, or Performing Arts Library are online.
Text a Librarian Send message to: 330-597-2170
You may send a text message to a librarian for help. We offer this service during Reference Desk hours but you may also receive an automated response by typing in a key word. Again, short factual questions are best answered using this service.
Kent State University librarians will provide expert help to students, faculty, or staff needing research assistance. The Meet with a Librarian program offers users the opportunity to meet for up to one hour for the purpose of identifying and locating needed resources to aid in the completion of classroom assignments. Users will be able to search appropriate scholarly databases for journal articles, browse book catalogs from Kent State University and OhioLINK institutions, and appropriate Web sites for resources.
