Loan Periods, Renewals, and Overdue Fines

Due Dates

  • View your library account to see due dates and renew materials.  
  • Due dates are listed on the RECEIPT that printed when you checked out materials.  
  • All borrowers accept responsibility for materials upon checkout.
  • Failure to read or receive an email notice of overdue material does not relieve the borrower of responsibility for overdue materials, blocks, fines, fees, or replacement costs.

Renewals

  • View your library account to see due dates and renew materials.  
  • Renewable materials will NOT renew if there are recalls or holds on the item.
  • Though frequently possible, renewals cannot be guaranteed, so plan your research accordingly!

Recalls

  • If another patron wants the material you have checked out, they can place a recall to request the material be brought back.
  • Recalls are usually only made if there are no other copies of the material available anywhere else in Ohio, or the items is needed to be placed on Reserve for a class.
  • Non-media materials (most books, etc.) are subject to recall after 21 days.
  • Audiovisual materials are subject to recall after 7 days.
  • Recalled materials will be assigned a revised due date.
  • Fines of $5 per day will be assessed for recalled items returned after the due date.

Payment of fines and fees

  • Fines from any Kent Campus can be paid by credit or debit card online by logging in to your KentLINK library account
  • Some Regional Campus Libraries may also accept payment for fines at their individual circulation desks.  Please see their websites or contact them to find out.
  • Fines that have been invoiced and submitted to the Bursar's Office are payable through the Bursar's Office or at the Library.  Fines that have not been invoiced may be submitted to the Bursar's Office upon request, in person, at the Circulation Desk. Fines submitted to the Bursar's Office, either by request or automatically, will not clear from a patron's library record until they are paid either online or at the Bursar's Office. 

Grace Periods

  • Where grace periods are applicable, fines will not be assessed for items returned or renewed within their grace period. If an item is returned after the grace period, the fine will accrue from the most recent due date (not the end of the grace period), for the entire period the item is overdue.
  • Two-hour Reserve and Periodicals have a ten (10) minute grace period. If the item is returned after the grace period, the fine will accrue from the most recent time due (not the end of the grace period) for the entire period the item is overdue.
