Scholarships

UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS

Incoming freshman may qualify for need-based grants and loans as well as need and merit-based Kent State University scholarships.  Out-of-state students may be eligible for the President’s Scholarship or the University Award that reduce the out-of-state tuition surcharge.  Learn more about university scholarships.

PROMISING SCHOLAR AWARDS

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication offers a major financial award ($2,000-$3,000 per year, renewable for four years) to incoming freshmen with outstanding high school academic credentials. Learn more about the Promising Scholar Award.

OSMA SCHOLARSHIP

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication offers a $500 scholarship to an outstanding high school senior from an Ohio Scholastic Media Association member school who will be attending Kent State. Learn more about the OSMA Scholarship.

JMC HONORS COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS

The Kent State University Honors College awards several merit scholarships of varying amounts designated specifically for students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication who apply for and are admitted to the Honors College. Learn more about the Honors College.

CAROL COSTELLO SCHOLARSHIP

School of Journalism and Mass Communication alumnus and CNN anchor Carol Costello and her husband, Timothy Law Snyder, support a $500 award to an outstanding incoming freshman with demonstrated financial need who is either from Minerva High School in Minerva, Ohio, or Ohio’s Stark, Lucas or Carroll counties. To apply for any of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication scholarships for incoming freshmen, complete this application.

OTHER JMC SCHOLARSHIPS

Current students already enrolled in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication may apply for more than 30 scholarships relating to their major. These awards are generally not available to incoming freshmen.  Learn more about JMC scholarships available to currently enrolled students.

GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS
