Taskforce Mission

Presidential Taskforce on Women in STEM Education and Research Mission Statement

The purpose of the Kent State University Presidential Taskforce on Women in STEM Education and Research is to assess action-oriented initiatives, policies, and procedures that promote and support women in STEM education and research. The taskforce will explore ways to encourage greater participation and success of women at all levels of STEM education and research, with a special focus on AALANA (African American, Latino American and Native American) women, from students through senior faculty and leadership.  The creation of the taskforce is an expression of KSU's investment in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The charge of the taskforce is to recommend to the President, programming, policy changes, procedures, and initiatives to support broadening the participation and success of AALANA and Non AALANA women in all STEM and related disciplines. Recommendations will center on the following three overarching themes:

  • Leadership: Increasing Leadership Development Opportunities for Women in STEM
  • Equity: Recruiting and Retaining Women in STEM
  • Advancement: Progression of Women in STEM at all levels from Undergraduate to Full Professor
We will focus on the following targeted populations of AALANA and non AALANA women: undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty in STEM related disciplines.
