Tie-Dye with CCI, Get Fit Fair, and Movers and Groovers were all recognized as regional award winning programs for the month of August with the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) and Central Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (CAACURH).
Tie Dye with CCI was designed as a great way for College of Communication and Information (CCI) Commons Students to relax and get to know other residents. It was an interactive and stress-relieving program for students to Tie Dye their favorite white shirts, meet their CCI Peers, and interact with their CCI Living-Learning Community Coordinator, Marianne. Every resident was able to engage other residents that share interests and tie dye love! Tie Dye with CCI was recognized as the Regional Social Program Of the Month for August.
The Get Fit Fair was a first time program in which the Kent Interhall Council wanted to help students stay fit and healthy as well as raise funds to attend regional/national conferences. At the fair, there were many tables with representation from organizations and departments across campus which helped people live healthy lifestyles on campus. Clubs included: Women's Lacrosse, Men's Ruby, Kendo, Green Dragon Kung-Fu, KSU Hockey Club, Figure Skating and the Ski and Snowboard team. These groups did demonstrations, interactive games, brought in equipment and did recruiting. Students were also able to participate in Zumba Fitness for two hours. The Get Fit Fair was recognized as the Regional Educational Program Of the Month for August.
Movers & Groovers allows first year students to feel welcome the moment they arrive on campus. The program was designed to make students new to Kent State feel at home and ease confusion on move in day. This year, a record number of volunteers came together to help move in one of the largest incoming group of new students. Some positive feedback included statements such as "Having the volunteers help me move in was great!" and "At one point we had 10+ volunteers and got the car unloaded in one trip!" Movers & Groovers was recognized as the Regional Community Service Program Of the Month for August.
