Graduate Studies is improving the program review procedures

Posted Aug. 10, 2011

Program reviews are conducted on a 7-year cycle. They help with long-range planning by informing units about their size and stability, future faculty resources and student market and equipment and space needs.

Recently, the Self Study portion of the review was revised to better align its content with the Ohio Board of Regents guidelines for doctoral program reviews. Based on feedback from former internal and external reviewers, as well as the Graduate Studies Administrative Advisory Committee and academic college deans, further revisions have been employed to increase efficiency and reduce redundancy. Such improvements mainly include a shorter timeline, a more explicit focus on regional campus programs and a more clearly defined role of reviewers. The program review schedule was also modified so that a given program review will better coincide with the review of affiliated units and with its external accreditation review, if applicable.

Revisions will be rolled out over the next two years, with the revised self study taking effect in AY 2011-12 and the remaining modifications being pilot tested in AY 2012-13. Graduate Studies looks forward to better serving departments with a more valuable and expeditious review process.
