Kent State University’s Department of Recreational Services presents Pride Games, a free community event, on Friday, Aug. 1, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. Pride Games will feature a number of fun competitions, culminating in a social in downtown Kent. The event is a collaborative effort between the Department of Recreational Services, PRIDE!Kent, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ) Student Center and the Kent State Women’s Center.
Participants will sign up for one of four color teams during registration the day of the event. Individuals also will sign up to represent their team in at least one competition, such as dodgeball, sand volleyball, tug of war, slip and slide, a cheer competition or a glow run. The first 150 participants to register will receive a free Pride Games tank top.
The purpose of the event is to promote equity and inclusion for all people, as well as to raise awareness about the upcoming Gay Games 9 hosted in Akron and Cleveland. PRIDE!Kent, the LGBTQ Student Center and the Women’s Center will staff tables during the event and provide information about campus resources and future programs.
