Welcome to the School Psychology Program at Kent State University

The graduate program in School Psychology prepares professional school psychologists to work as leaders in applied practice in education and mental health settings. Both the Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) and doctoral (Ph.D.) programs offer extensive training and fieldwork aimed at producing highly trained practitioners who possess the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to enhance the academic and mental health competence of all children and youth. The School Psychology Program at Kent State University is steeped in history, reflecting Ohio's early position in the development of the specialty, and remains as a national leader in preparing school psychologists.

Why Choose A Career in School Psychology?

School psychologists use foundations of psychology and education to understand school systems, effective teaching, and successful learning. They have an active role identifying the psychological, behavioral, social, or emotional issues that prevent students' achievement and craft a systemic solution that promotes academic success in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment. School Psychologists are the leading problem-solvers in changing student outcomes in schools.

U.S. News and World Report continues to rank School Psychology as one of the 50 Best Careers in the United States (see Best Careers 2011). As such, the need for School Psychologists is expected to grow.
