Literacy Education

Teacher helping students read

Thank you for your interest in our program. Our program prepares educators to teach students at all ages, preK-12, in general education and reading specific instructional situations. We focus on students who progress typically and those who are struggling to read.

We offer advanced study in the teaching of preK-12 literacy. Specifically, teachers can earn the following:

Reading Endorsement (non-degree),

Certifies holder to teach reading in K-12 settings (seeker must already hold a valid teaching certificate or license).

Holder must have had 9 to 12 hours in reading coursework prior to beginning any endorsement coursework

Master's Degree in Reading Specialization

There are two possible routes:

M.Ed. (Master's of Education)

M.A. (Masters of Arts) (includes a thesis)

You earn your reading endorsement within your Master's Degree.

Ph.D. in Reading Specialization

You earn your Ph.D. under the Curriculum and Instruction umbrella with a specialization in Literacy.
