The Kent State University chapter of Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) is open to all Kent State University students interested in pursuing a career in the growing meeting and event planning industry. Students participate in various fundraising events; go on tours of hotels, conference and convention centers; listen to industry leaders; and attend the annual convention that provides networking and career opportunities.
Members learn about various aspects of the event planning industry through property tours of hotels, clubs, and convention centers and meetings with industry professionals. Student members have participated in various fundraising activities including silent auctions and catered events and volunteer activities such as operating The Fabulous Bistro at The Food Show at the I-X Center in Cleveland, OH. Funds raised helped support several students travel to the Annual Conventions of PCMA held in Seattle, WA in 2008, New Orleans, LA in 2009, Dallas, TX in 2010, Las Vegas, NV in 2011, San Diego, CA in 2012, Orlando, FL in 2013, and Boston, MA in 2014. Students are also involved in various service activities in the local community.
The KSU Chapter of PCMA belongs to the regional POWER Chapter, which includes members from Pittsburgh, Ohio, West Virginia, and Erie Region. There are approximately 130 members in the POWER Chapter.
