Janet Meyer teaches in the areas of persuasion, communication theory, communication and cognition, measurement & analysis, research methods, and language & meaning. Her recent research has focused on factors influencing the production of regretted messages, learning from regretted messages, the cognitive processes underlying the production of requests, politeness in request messages, and the effect of situational factors on the pursuit of secondary goals. Her work has appeared in Communication Monographs, Communication Theory, Communication Research, The Western Journal of Communication, The Southern Communication Journal, Communication Studies, and the Journal of Language and Social Psychology as well as in three book chapters. She has presented numerous papers at national and regional conventions. Before coming to Kent State, she taught at Kansas State University, the University of Wyoming, the University of Memphis, and the University of Miami.
