Deadline: Rolling Funding: $25,000 Emerging Technologies
While emerging technologies now being developed and commercialized may result in useful applications, they can also have serious negative social, environmental and political consequences. That's why emerging technologies need precautionary assessment, regulation and oversight – including those that are fast tracked and marketed as "techno-fixes" or "green" panaceas to climate change and other crises.
CSF and WML focus on developments in three emerging and converging technologies in particular:
Nanotechnology – the creation and commercialization of tiny bits of matter (a nanometer is one billionth of a meter) Synthetic biology – the design, manufacture and release of artificially created DNA Geoengineering – intentional, large-scale climate manipulation through a range of methods
Dreyfus Foundation Senior Scientist Mentor Program
Deadline: September 10th, 2015 Funding: $20,000 The Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation seeks to support emeriti faculty who maintain active research programs with undergraduates in the chemical sciences.
The foundation's Senior Scientist Mentor Program is open to all academic institutions in the states, districts, and territories of the United States that grant a bachelor's degree or higher in the chemical sciences, including biochemistry, materials chemistry, and chemical engineering.
Faculty who received emeritus status on or before October 2015 and who maintain active research programs in the chemical sciences may apply. Successful applicants are expected to be closely engaged in a mentoring relationship with undergraduate students. The evaluation will be based on both an assessment of the research proposed and plans for undergraduate participation in the research. An applicant's history of mentoring undergraduates is favorably viewed.
The program provides a $20,000 award over two years, intended mostly for undergraduate stipends. Modest research support also is allowed.
Visit the Dreyfus Foundation website for complete program guidelines and application procedures.
