Finalists must have at least junior standing and be a current student at time of award and have at least a 3.0 GPA in the major. Finalists should also demonstrate some level of university involvement. Nominees for the award are selected by members of the faculty.
Mercedes Germino is studying Organizational Communication and minoring in Marketing and International Business. Germino is also a member of the Kent State Women's Golf Team. In her junior year Gemino earned All-America Scholar accolades from the National Golf Coaches Association for a third consecutive season. She was named to College Sports Information Directors of America's second-team academic all-District IV squad and also garnered Academic All Mid-American Conference honors for the second year. She is the number two position golfer for Kent State. Germino, a graduate of Escuela Argentina Danes Alta Mira, is from Necochea, Argentina.
Christian W. Stewart is a recipient of the Undergraduate Student Award. Stewart is studying Interpersonal Communication with a minor in Applied Conflict Management. Stewart's extra-curricular activities include serving as a Personalized System of Instruction (PSI) Intern for the School of Communication Studies and a Call Center Representative for the Office of Admissions at Kent State. Stewart was an intern for Marketing and Communications at the University of Toledo during summer 2010. Stewart is president of Lambda Pi Eta, the official communication studies honor society of the Nation Communication Association, and a member of Kent Communication Society. He is president of Navigators Campus Ministry at Kent State. Stewart was a student staff member of TV-2 Campus TV station from September 2008 to December 2009. A native of Toledo, Stewart is a graduate of Toledo Christian School.
