CCI Film and Photography Gala
The College of Communication and Information (CCI), along with the Undergraduate Student Government at Kent State University, will host a Film Gala at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, in Franklin Hall to raise money for the Equipment Services Lab (ESL) of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
SCREENING: The gala will begin with a reception in the Third Floor Lobby of Franklin Hall, just outside of the FirstEnergy Auditorium. Doors to the FirstEnergy Auditorium will open at 6:30 p.m., and the film competition will start at 7 p.m.
ELIGIBILTY: The competition is open to all current undergraduate and graduate Kent State students.
DRESS CODE: Business Attire
ENTRY FEE: A flat fee of $15 per entry is required. Each entrant can submit up to three entries. Entry fees are non-refundable.
SUBMISSION DATES: All entries must be submitted to Nicole Gennarelli in 131 Moulton Hall (CCI Dean’s Office) on or before Feb. 12, 2014.
1. Participation is open to all current undergraduate and graduate Kent State students. For the purpose of qualification, at the time of submission (not at the time the work was completed) entrants may be required to provide student identification for verification.
2. Films should be a minimum of one minute and a maximum of 15 minutes.
3. All entries should be submitted in DVD format. DVD’s should be clearly labeled with the entrant’s name(s), name of the work and length of work. In the case of multiple entries, each entry must be submitted on a separate DVD.
4. A completed entry form must accompany each entry.
5. Submissions cannot be returned. Entrant should keep a copy of all work submitted.
6. Entrant must own all copyrights, or have verification of permission for us of copyrighted materials included in submission. In submitting your entry, you are certifying that all such permissions have been obtained and assuming all copyright liability thereof.
7. Works must have been created in the past two years.
8. Films will be showcased to general audiences. As such, the judges reserve the right to refuse to screen entries with content deemed inappropriate for such audiences.
Entries will be judged on the following criteria:
1. Originality – uniqueness of the work
2. Technical merit – assesses lighting, sound quality, and image quality
3. Execution – overall quality of components, including, but not limited to, acting, use of props and setting, where applicable
4. Audience appeal – how well the work engages the audience
AWARDS: The first place winner will receive a $75 book scholarship, second place a $50 book scholarship, and third place a $25 book scholarship. All scholarships will be deposited into students’ Bursars’ accounts. Competition winners can chose from different prize options in addition to the monetary award.
SCREENING: Juried selections will be screened at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21 in the FirstEnergy Auditorium in Franklin Hall. General Admission is $5. All entrants will receive two complimentary tickets.
