Economics is the study of how people make decisions in response to incentives. The Economics minor examines a range of topics, including individual decisions regarding risk, firm strategies regarding their competitors and the role of the government in the financial system and broader economy. Students study specific areas of public policy concern such as health care, environmental problems, economic development and international trade. Problem-solving and analytical skills are emphasized throughout the program.

Requirement to declare the economics minor:

  • Minimum 2.000 overall GPA; or if new freshman, no established GPA is required.

Requirement to graduate with the economics minor:

  • Minimum 2.000 (including all attempts) is required in the minor courses.

Program Policies:

  • It is highly recommended that students electing the economics minor complete at least one mathematics course at the MATH 11010 level or higher before registering for upper- division economics courses.
  • To earn a College of Business Administration minor, students must complete at least 50 percent of the total required credit hours for the minor at Kent State University, at least 6 credit hours in the minor must be at the upper division (30-40000 level), and at least 6 credit hours in the minor must be different from courses in the student's major and minor(s). Students may not pursue a minor and major in the same discipline.
