Description

The Master of Arts in Biology is for students wishing to gain additional knowledge in any area of the biological sciences and are not looking towards a career in biological research. This non-thesis program complements secondary school science teachers, students looking for additional background or preparation for professional school programs such as in medicine or dentistry, and those seeking employment in life science industries in a non-research capacity.

The Master of Science in Biology provides an advanced degree for students who have undergraduate degrees in biology or a related life science. The program is offered for working biologists in various professions including educators teaching science at the secondary level.

Admission Requirements

M.A. and M.S.: Official transcript(s), 3.00 undergraduate GPA, goal statement and three letters of recommendation. Admission into the M.S. also requires the GRE. For more information about graduate admissions, please visit the Graduate Studies website.

Graduation Requirements

Minimum 32 total credit hours.
 

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates of this program will be able to:

  1. Understand advanced biological concepts beyond the scope of the typical undergraduate degree and to increase the depth of their knowledge through coursework and hands-on experiences. 
  2. Apply scientific principles and appreciate work outside of their particular field. 
  3. Effectively communicate about science with colleagues as well as those outside of the student's area of expertise. 
  4. Develop the necessary laboratory skills that will allow testing of hypotheses.
