The minor in Arabic is designed to develop the four Arabic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The minor trains students how to read, interpret, and contextualize texts at various levels. Emphasis is placed on oral communication and the reading of texts of different genres. Students are introduced to Arabic history and culture, including famous writers and historical figures. Students are also expected to engage in authentic texts and write short papers. At the time of completion of the minor, students are expected to communicate orally in modern standard Arabic and interact with native speakers of Arabic effectively in a daily environment.
