The Associate of Applied Business in Information Technology for Administrative Professionals provides students with the opportunity to learn current business developments that shape administrative functions. Students use the most current versions of business software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing and visual presentations. In addition, students learn the fundamentals of accounting, automated records management, business communications and resource management. Contact an advisor for more information. The degree is available at the Ashtabula, Salem, Trumbull and Tuscarawas campuses and is designed for secretaries, administrative assistants, office managers and CEO/CFO executive assistants.

Secretaries and administrative assistants held more than 4.1 million jobs in 2010, ranking it among the largest occupations in the U.S. economy.

Secretaries and administrative assistants are employed in organizations of every type. The field has elevated from taking dictation and making coffee to one of assuming major responsibilities once reserved for managerial and professional staff. In a number of organizations, secretaries and administrative assistants work in teams to work flexibly and share their expertise. Secretaries and administrative assistants usually work in schools, hospitals, corporate settings, government agencies, or legal and medical offices. Virtual assistants work from a home office.

Admission Requirements

Admission is open to anyone with a high school diploma or its equivalent.
 

Graduation Requirements

Minimum 61 credit hours. Minimum 2.000 cumulative GPA and in major.
 

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates of this program will be able to:

1. Organize, manage, and analyze critical business data using spreadsheet and database software.

2. Create state-of-the-art documents using design guidelines, terminology and basic publication concepts using industry standards.

3. Import and integrate data from their original software to another for upgraded usage.

4. Determine the most appropriate software to use in creating specific business documents that meet industry standards for mailability.

5. Students will be able to contrast, compare, and adapt to forces that influence emerging management practices. Students will be able to manage the people, productivity, technology, and environment within the administrative function of an organization.

6. Integrate coursework with realistic office settings emphasizing the total quality management environment.

7. Use multiple channels used in business to communicate with others

8. Participate in the activities of various businesses to determine the variety of job responsibilities assigned to employees in their profession. In the process, they will develop job search strategies for use in their outreach activities.

9. Track and provide administrative support in managing projects using software designed for this specific purpose.

10. Examine, describe, and exercise various leadership, decision-making and motivational skills.
