Kent State University’s History Department faculty specialize in American, European, African, Latin American, Asian and Medieval history, and offer courses that range widely across the chronologic, thematic and geographic sweep of humankind’s existence. Introductory lecture courses prepare students for the challenges of living and working in the global community of the twenty-first century. Upper-division courses — including a research- intensive Senior Seminar — provide students with challenging perspectives on a variety of topics, and provide them with the means to sharpen their reading, research, critical thinking and writing skills.

Kent State University’s graduate program in history offers two degrees: the Master of Arts and the Doctor of Philosophy. In addition to a traditional M.A. degree, students can pursue concentrations in public history and history for teachers.
