Adjunct Professor of Chemistry, Kent State University
Member, Liquid Crystal Institute, Kent State University
Member, School of Biomedical Sciences, Kent State University
Philip Westerman received his Ph.D. in chemistry from Sydney University, Australia in 1971. After a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. George Olah at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH from 1971 to 1974, he held Research Fellowships at the Australian National University, Canberra (1974-75) and the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA (1975-76). In 1976, he became a member of the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine faculty.
Westerman is a member of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Biophysical Society, the American Chemical Society, the International Society of Magnetic Resonance, and the International Liquid Crystal Society. He was president of the Kent State University Chapter of Sigma Xi from 1990-92. He has held visiting appointments at the University of New South Wales and the Commonwealth Research and Industrial Research Organization, both in Sydney, Australia and the Dipartimento di Chimica, at the University of Calabria, Italy.
Westerman maintains research laboratories at NEOUCOM in the areas of membrane biochemistry and biophysics and participates actively in conferences of the Biophysical Society. He has published 99 articles.
