CAED Profile

Brian Peters

Assistant Professor

Brian is an Assistant Professor in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED) and his research and teaching is focused on digital technologies in architectural design. He received a Master’s of Architecture from the University of Illinois at Chicago and worked for several years as an architect and designer in Chicago. Most recently, Brian was studying, working and teaching in Europe. He received a Master of Advanced Architecture from the Institute of Advanced Architecture in Catalonia (IAAC) and completed a thesis on digital fabrication in Barcelona. In Amsterdam, Brian worked on several projects investigating the role of 3D printing at the scale of architecture, including a collaboration with DUS Architects on the KamerMaker. The KamerMaker is a large scale 3D printer that can print objects up to 7ft x 7ft x 10ft. Brian also initiated a project called Building Bytes, creating a line of 3D printed ceramic bricks. Building Bytes was selected as the “Jury Winner” for the 2013 Architizer A+ Award in the “Architecture + Materials” category.

At CAED, Brian is continuing his research and teaching in digital fabrication in architecture. Brian has also founded the Robotic Fabrication Lab (RFAB) in the MACC Annex, which features a six-axis robotic arm and several desktop 3D printers, with the intention of developing a research cluster for faculty, students and outside partners.
