The School of Biomedical Sciences has a highly talented graduate faculty committed to excellence in research and teaching. The 135 faculty have primary appointments at Kent State University, Northeast Ohio Medical University, The Lerner Research Institute of the Cleveland Clinic, The University of Akron, Youngstown State University, Akron General Medical Center and Summa Health System. Faculty research focuses on most aspects of biomedicine ranging from molecular, to cellular and organismal levels of biological organization. Most research is focused on the description and treatment of human diseases.
The faculty are organized according to the five program areas, with many faculty participating in more than one area. Our faculty are supported by grants from the major public and private funding agencies, including the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Education, the Department of Defense, the American Heart Association, the Ohio Board of Regents and a number of private companies. Over the past five years, our faculty were awarded over $150 million in extramural funds to support their research.
