The Kent State University Chorale and Ars Nova Singers will sing a variety of repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary works directed by Associate Professor and Director of Choral Activities Scott MacPherson. The concert is at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 11 at Kent Presbyterian Church located at 1456 East Summit St., Kent, OH. A free reception will follow the concert.
Kent State's Chorale is made up of 36 of the best singers at the university, and Ars Nova Singers is a small select ensemble at Kent State that specializes in Renaissance and other music for small groups. The set includes composers such as Palestrina, Byrd, Victoria, J.S. Bach, Mendelssohn, Arvo Pärt, and William Schuman, along with a few Spirituals. "The Spring Concert is a fundraiser event for both ensembles' upcoming concert tour to Washington, D.C.," said MacPherson. "During spring break, the two groups will be featured at New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, and President Lincoln's church during this presidential term while living in the White House."

Each year the choral performs on campus and throughout the region, state and even toured Italy for eleven days performing in Florence, Rome, Venice and Greve. A person's level of involvement is dependent upon one's interest, time schedule and musical and vocal maturity.
The Ars Nova Singers is a small, highly select ensemble that specializes in unaccompanied vocal chamber music and usually consists of six to seven singers. Repertoire is chosen from all periods with the greatest concentration in sixteenth and twentieth-century secular music. Ars Nova performs at the University's annual Yuletide Feaste, on concerts with the KSU Chorale, and for organizations and functions throughout the Kent area.
