College of the Arts Names New Associate DeanPosted Aug. 9, 2010
Kent State University announces the appointment of Dr. Ralph Lorenz to associate dean in the College of the Arts. Prior to serving as associate dean, Dr. Lorenz was an associate professor of music theory in the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music and was instrumental in creating the master of music in music education online program.
Lorenz received a Ph.D. in music theory from Indiana University, after having completed bachelor of music and master of art degrees in composition from California State University Long Beach.
"Dr. Lorenz has provided strong leadership in advising, academic and student services areas at both the graduate and undergraduate levels," said Dr. John Crawford, dean of the College of the Arts. "I feel so fortunate to have him working in our college."
Lorenz is a former editor of the Indiana Theory Review and has published articles and reviews in the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy, Theoria, Indiana Theory Review, and 20th Century Music. He has presented papers at national and international conferences such as the annual meetings of the Society for Music Theory, The College Music Society, the German Studies Association, and the International Congress on Medieval Studies.
Lorenz lives in Stow with his wife and son.
